Embarcadero
June 2nd, 2021. I've just returned to the states after spending 8 months of my gap year in Taiwan. It seemed every time I came back to my family, it was to a different location. The past year I returned to one of my childhood homes: Taipei. Everything was similar and so different at the same time, the city much less vast than it seemed when I was a child. During this time my brother and dad remained in California, bound by their work regulations. They sold and moved from our home of 6 years in LA. These images distilled my first impressions of our new apartment in San Francisco. Coming from 8 months on a subtropical island and the last couple of years in LA, it was a new sort of misty coastal beauty: blue light, chilly toes, and ocean air calling me to sleep. I sat there with my dad and brother on the couch, simply soaking in their presence. Just being. After being separated for so long, you start to miss the corporeal energy and heat that FaceTime lacks.
